Nearly everyone has experienced the trauma of pimples and blemishes in their teenage years. For some, skin care and treatment may help but for others, it is a daunting task to control the spread of acne, day after day. If the condition is very severe, one must see a dermatologist, who can provide proper acne treatment and skin care. They can help to decrease the occurrence of pimples and breakouts and also reverse the marks or scars left by severe acne.

Besides administering medicines and topical lotions to use on acne, dermatologists also use certain procedures to effectively cure aggressive forms of acne. These procedures may be invasive or noninvasive.

Such procedures include:

Non-Invasive Methods

Acne Chemical Peels: These are gentle chemical peels consisting of glycolic acid and certain chemicals. These help blackheads and pimples to become loose and easy to remove or treat.

Comedone Extractions: Dermatologists can extract comedones, that is, blackheads and whiteheads with the help of a sterile device that is the size of a pen.

Photodynamic Therapy: makes use of a photosensitizing solution and a safe light sourcecalled Blue Light, which does not use laser or Ultraviolet light. This therapy treats acne as well as rosacea and marks of aging. This treatment is preferred, as it attacks only the affected area and does not harm the surrounding tissues.

Intense Pulsed Light Photo Facial Procedure: IPL procedure destroys the acne-causing bacteria. This method is gaining popularity, as it is quick, simple and does not involve any healing after the procedure. It improves skin complexion and texture.

Besides these procedures, various other procedures are used by dermatologists to remove scars. These include microdermabrasion, collagen injections, fat transfers etc. However, it is at the discretion of the dermatologist which treatment will be suitable for a particular type of problem.

Invasive Procedures

Surgical Extraction: Large papules that remain unresponsive to medicines have to be drained and removed surgically. This is known as acne surgery. This makes the pimples less painful and prevents the skin from scarring.

Laser Skin Resurfacing: This procedure is also known as laser rejuvenation or laser peel.In this procedure, a laser dissolves the molecules of the layer of the skin that is damaged. This exposes another layer of skin that is smooth and even. This procedure is safe and helps to get rid of the scars formed by acne.

All these treatments are safe, effectual and convenient to all. Sometimes, the dermatologist may combine two different treatments to achieve maximum benefit. Thus, with the advancement of modern technology in medical science, these procedures are proving to be extremely helpful in cure of acne. However, some of them may cost a quite a bit.

Is the problem on acne is getting over you and you are disturbed because of it? It is time to consider advanced acne treatments. These are effective and provide quick relief from acne.
